Beautiful Temples of Mangalore - Mangaladevi & Kudroli Gokarananath Temples
I was invited to lecture at the summer camp for the teachers of the Amrita Vidyalayam, Mangalore in July 2010. After my talk was over in the morning, I had plenty of time and the school principal and the correspondent Swamini Mangalamrita Chaitanya were gracious enough to provide me with a car to visit the temples in Mangalore.
It turned out to be one of the best temple tours of my life. I had long been waiting to visit the Mangaladevi temple as a visit to this temple is said to help bachelors find a suitable life partner, like the famous Tirumanancheri temple in Tamilnadu. :-) The Mangalore town derives its name from Mangalooru named after the goddess Mangaladevi.
The Gokarnanatheswara Temple deserves a special mention. It is one of the cleanest and most beautiful temples I have ever visited. It is well maintained by the Kerala based Narayana Guru samsthanam.
Gokarnanatheshwara, Lord Shiva, is the main deity. The main temple is surrounded by the smaller temples for Mahaganapathi, Subramanya, Shaneeshwara, the Navagraha, Annapoorneswari and Anandabhairava. Murals, showing a variety of scenes from legends, mythology and epics, of different gods and goddesses decorate four gopuras, pillars in this temple constructed in the Tamil Nadu style.
Visiting this temple and offering a pooja here is a blissful experience for the soul. You can now offer a pooja at these Mangalore temples from Parihara.com:
1. Offer a pooja at Mangaladevi Temple
2. Offer a pooja at Gokarnanatheswara Temple
