Exceptions to Kuja Dosham or Manglik Dosh

Many happy lives have been ruined by the erroneous analysis of horoscope compatibility done by half-baked astrologers who are not well versed in the shastras but claim to be experts in astrology. Kuja Dosham or Manglik dosh is one such altar on which many marriages have been sacrificed. As soon as the parents see that Mars is housed in the 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th houses of the horoscope of the groom or the bride, they cry 'Kuja Dosham' and reject the alliance without considering any other aspects. This foolish belief has become particularly rigid in South India.

Many people are not aware that the astrological scriptures have laid down many exceptions to the rules they have defined. Given below are some important exceptions to Kuja Dosham or Manglik Dosh for the benefit of the lay readers:

1. What is important during matching horoscopes is to ensure that there are equal doshas in the bride and groom's charts. So, if both the boy and the girl have Mars housed in the 7th, then the charts can be said to match.

2. It is only in Kerala astrology that Kuja dosham or Manglik dosh has been given a lot of weightage. Many other Rishis differ on this point when it comes to how much importance should be given to Manglik Dosh. If the horoscope is otherwise strong and specially if the girl's horoscope has sufficient Guru Bala (Jupiter's grace), then Kuja dosham need not be given too much importance.

3. Scriptures also declare that for people born in Mesha (Aries), Karkataka (Cancer), Leo (Simha), Vrischika (Scorpio), Dhanus (Sagittarius) and Meena (Pisces) - Kuja Dosham does NOT apply.

4. If the 7th house happens to be Karkataka (Cancer), Dhanus (Sagittarius)or Meena (Pisces), then Kuja in the 7th will be a friendly planet and will NOT do any harm to these natives. So, Kuja dosham does not apply in such cases (irrespective of Janma rashi or lagna).

5. If the 7th house is Thula (Libra) or Vrishabha (Taurus), then Kuja or Mangal in the 7th will only bestow lasting affection and fidelity but will NOT harm the couple.

6. If the 7th house is Kanya (Virgo) or Aquarius (Kumbha), then Kuja in the 7th will bestow prosperity and happiness after marriage.

Parents who are seeking alliances for their children should keep these exceptions in mind and avoid rejecting horoscopes simply on the basis of Kuja Dosham or Manglik Dosh. Other important parameters such as longevity of the bride & groom, strength of Jupiter and Venus, other doshas such as presence of Rahu or Saturn in 4th / 5th / 7th or 12th houses  etc also should be considered.
